CACTI_ BEHIND THE SCENES
Our new project is a collaboration with Jona Bednjanec, a young Slovenian fashion and textile designer based in Ljubljana. Our task was to design the set, direct the photoshoot and at the end create the look book for her new knitwear Summer/Spring 2018 collection Cacti.
Who is Jona Bednjanec? She graduated from the Faculty of natural science and technology, where she is now proceeding with her master studies. Jona is known for her endless love for knitting, which also influences and represents her most as a fashion designer. She is most recognisable by her distinguished colour palettes but is also inspired by patterns, textures, yarn and hand knitting techniques– in which she firmly believes bring an added value to the final product.
The main inspiration for her collection are cacti and their textures. The clothing pieces were made through a long process of exploring different knitting techniques, that would resemble the cacti textures. The final knitted clothing pieces give a solid impression or at least a hint of a cacti.
All this was also the starting point of the scenography design process; cacti, their textures and the collections colour palette are the main visual elements. We experimented with projection art photography, that has become increasingly more popular over the years as photographers and artists have discovered this fantastically adaptable resource to produce art and photography. With different graphic projections we managed to create a very contemporary, young, playful and poetic scene. The set design brings another level and value to the photos as it reinforces the story and idea behind the collection.
